Hemorrhoid Infrared Coagulation Treatment Now Offered

The physicians of Atlanta Colon and Rectal Surgery (ACRS) are specially trained and experienced to diagnose and treat all types of anorectal disease, particularly hemorrhoids. Our practice has recently added a well-established procedure known as Infrared Coagulation (IRC) to our varied treatment options for this malady. Though this technique has been used for decades, it has recently garnered much interest in press and advertising. IRC is a painless, non-surgical, well-tolerated, office procedure that shrinks hemorrhoids by coagulating the blood vessels that supply them. Patients typically present to the physician with hemorrhoid symptoms of pain, bleeding, and swelling. ACRS doctors are adept at differentiating hemorrhoid problems from other anorectal disease. It is important to evaluate the degree of hemorrhoid, symptoms, size, and inflammation and then tailor treatment of the patient among the many appropriate options available. The ultimate treatment plan is selected after consultation between the patient and the physician.

March Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

In a joint effort with the American Cancer Society and with the occasion of “March Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month,” our physician, Dr Liberman, has been interviewed with regards to the importance of colon and rectal cancer screening and prevention on several different occasions. He was featured on Radio 106.7 on April 15, 2007 and on NBC on March 1, 2005 as well as other television networks in over 76 markets.

New STARR Procedure

Atlanta Colon and Rectal Surgery physicians are the first in Georgia to perform the new STARR procedure!

This new and innovative procedure helps people with chronic constipation. No incision is needed, and patients typically spend one night in the hospital. They have minimal discomfort and resume normal activities almost immediately. The procedure treats patients with Obstructed Defecation Syndrome (ODS). ODS affects thousands of people in the US, mostly women. These patients have symptoms of forceful straining, incomplete evacuation, prolonged bowel movements, and use of assistance (mechanical or manual) to complete a bowel movement.

A simple test can be done to determine which patients are candidates for the STARR procedure. Early results have been excellent.

New Hemorrhoid Procedure

Atlanta Colon and Rectal Surgery, PA is pleased to present our new painless hemorrhoid surgery. This technique was designed in Europe a few years ago. Our physicians were the first to perform this procedure in Georgia. Currently, we have the most experience in the state.

The procedure involves reconfiguring the hemorrhoid tissue without cutting it out. There are no sutures and discomfort is minimal. Many patients have resumed normal work schedules and activities the day after surgery. Thus far, studies have shown excellent long term success.

Not every patient with hemorrhoids is a candidate for this new procedure, called a “PPH“. Feel free to discuss this with your Atlanta Colon and Rectal Surgery, PA physician during your appointment. Your doctor will be able to explain, in detail, the process and determine after one short visit whether or not the new procedure is appropriate for you.
